The world's first front loader from the Keller brothers produced in 1957

The history of the production of loaders began not so long ago, namely in the late 19th — early 20th century. The very first loader – the progenitor of all modern ones, or rather its prototype, was invented by the Keller brothers back in 1957. His main task was to help farmers in cleaning haystacks, droppings from the chicken coop and much more.

This loader was a three-wheeled car, which had only one front wheel leading. Already in the fifty-eighth year, the Keller brothers sold their rights to the loader to the Melroe Manufacturing engineering company, which also hired them to work for further improvements of this new model of mini-equipment.

The lightweight three-wheeled loader with a gasoline engine with a capacity of only 9 hp with manual start and hydraulic drive of the working equipment was deployed on the spot thanks to the separate control of the two side drive wheels, while the rear double wheel provided stability. The Melro brothers immediately realized the potential of this invention and bought the rights to it, and the Kellers were made partners of the company.

Less than a year has passed since the company released a new loader model under the letter M-200. The improved unit had a 12.9 hp engine, a separate drive for the rear twin wheels appeared. The M-200 also inherited disadvantages: insufficient stability, power and weak traction.

This car had one rear steering wheel and two independent front driving wheels. The engine power was only 12.9 horsepower, and the load capacity was 350 kilograms. In the following years, new M-440 and M-600 loaders were developed and released from the conveyor, which had much more engine power and, accordingly, had a greater load capacity. Modern models of loaders are now produced by many world manufacturers of special equipment. Such as: Caterpillar, John Deere, JCB, Mustang, Case, New Holland, JLG, Gehl and others.

Nowadays, these machines are infinitely improved, thanks to new types of attachments, they become more functional and versatile for practical use in many types of work.
